Tamworth Castle symbolises all that is great about Tamworth. Standing proudly above the River Tame and just before the confluence point of the aforementioned Tame and the River Anchor, the Castle has stood for generations whilst its surroundings have undergone vast changes.
The Castle was built circa 1070 at the hands of Norman invaders and was once home to the Kingdom of Mercia before other hands took the reigns. Its perhaps best known tenants include the Marmion family who held the deeds on at least two occassions and the most famous resident was perhaps Robert Peel who stayed in the 19th century.
The Castle is open to the public most of the year and holds various functions including weddings and historical presentations.
The Castle is surrounded by the shopping centre, Ankerside and its own grounds which are perfect for entertaining children on the adventure playground. Its also within walking distance of The Snowdome leisure Complex and The Ten-Pin Bowling alley.
